Geology

The West Quarry mines a hard, dolomitic limestone deposit which is white/grey in color containing two basic material types:

  1. Chert free limestone layer – the thickest layer in the West quarry is comprised of a hard, chert-free limestone ideal for use in high-strength concrete, rip-rap or erosion control, and general construction.
  2. Standard limestone layer – the bottom layer in our West quarry is more typical of the limestones in SE Wisconsin and is used for road base, clear stone, and general construction.

Geology

The Sussex Quarry mines a hard, dolomitic limestone deposit which is white/grey in color containing three basic material types:

  1. Building stone layer – containing large, continuous layers of varying thickness ideal for use in architectural and building stone applications.
  2. Chert free limestone layer – the thickest layer in the Sussex quarry is comprised of a hard, chert-free limestone ideal for use in high-strength concrete, rip-rap or erosion control, and general construction.
  3. Standard limestone layer – the bottom layer in our Sussex quarry is more typical of the limestones in SE Wisconsin and is used for road base, clear stone, and general construction.

Geology

The Jackson quarry mines a medium-strength dolomitic limestone which is white/yellow/brown in color containing two basic material types.

  1. Yellow/buff layer – ideal for cut stone applications, this layer yields large fracture-free boulders.
  2. White/brown layers – used in all our construction aggregates products, this layer also has small amounts of clay which make our road bases extremely tight-packing and durable.

Geology

The Richfield Pit mines a deposit of glacial till containing smaller rocks, sands, and silts used predominantly for backfill applications. Because of its co-location with the Moraine Development clean fill site, we also stock a variety of limestone and washed gravel products for our exiting fill customers.

Lisbon Pit

Hours of Operation

Monday-Friday 6:30AM to 3:00PM
Saturday – Open Upon Request

Geology

The Lisbon Pit is somewhat unique in that it contains a gravel pit and a dolomitic limestone quarry in one location. The site is primarily covered by a glacial till containing many large rocks and boulders. This predominance of large rock gives our stone products a very high percentage of fractured faces resulting in a better performing aggregate for concrete, asphalt, and backfill applications. Under the glacial till is a hard white/grey dolomitic limestone deposit. Like our Lannon Quarry this deposit contains 3 basic layers:

  1. Building stone layer – containing large, continuous layers of varying thickness ideal for use in architectural and building stone applications.
  2. Chert free limestone layer – the thickest layer in the Lisbon quarry is comprised of a hard, chert-free limestone ideal for use in high-strength concrete, rip-rap or erosion control, and general construction.
  3. Standard limestone layer – the bottom layer in our Lisbon quarry is more typical of the limestones in SE Wisconsin and is used for road base, clear stone, and general construction.
